Why You’re Tired All the Time (And Why It Might Be Your Thyroid)

You go to bed early, you drink the coffee, and you still feel tired all the time. Sound familiar?

If your energy feels like it’s on permanent low—even with plenty of sleep—it’s time to look deeper. One of the most common (and often overlooked) reasons behind persistent fatigue is thyroid dysfunction.

At Inertia Health Center, we help patients get to the root of their symptoms. If you’ve been told your labs are “normal” but you still don’t feel right, your thyroid might be the missing piece.

Why Your Thyroid Matters

Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland at the base of your neck—but don’t let its size fool you. It plays a major role in regulating your entire metabolism: how your body uses energy, produces heat, burns calories, and recovers from stress.

When your thyroid is underactive (a condition known as hypothyroidism), everything slows down—including your energy, digestion, and even your ability to think clearly.

Signs Your Thyroid May Be the Problem

If you’re tired all the time and dealing with any of these symptoms, it’s worth looking into thyroid function:

  • Fatigue that doesn’t improve with rest
  • Cold hands or feet
  • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
  • Brain fog or poor concentration
  • Hair thinning or brittle nails
  • Dry skin
  • Depression or mood swings
  • Constipation
  • Irregular or heavy periods
  • Feeling puffy, swollen, or inflamed

These symptoms can build slowly over time—and often get written off as “stress,” “aging,” or “just life.” But they’re red flags that your body isn’t functioning the way it should.

But My Labs Came Back Normal…

This is one of the most common frustrations we hear from patients.

Standard thyroid lab panels often include just TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone). And while TSH is helpful, it doesn’t give the full picture. A person can have “normal” TSH but still experience all the symptoms of a sluggish thyroid.

A more complete thyroid assessment includes:

  • Free T3 and Free T4 – your active thyroid hormones
  • Reverse T3 – can block thyroid function if elevated
  • Thyroid antibodies – which help detect autoimmune thyroid issues like Hashimoto’s

We believe you deserve more than “normal” labs—you deserve to feel well.

What’s Causing My Thyroid to Struggle?

There’s often no single cause. Thyroid issues are usually the result of multiple stressors building over time. Some of the most common root causes include:

  • Chronic stress and elevated cortisol
  • Nutrient deficiencies (like iodine, selenium, zinc, iron, or B vitamins)
  • Blood sugar imbalances
  • Autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s
  • Inflammation from food sensitivities, gut issues, or toxins
  • Lack of sleep or recovery

This is why thyroid issues can’t be solved with a “one-size-fits-all” approach.

A Functional Approach to Fatigue and Thyroid Health

At Inertia Health Center, we don’t just look at your lab numbers—we look at you.

We take time to understand your symptoms, lifestyle, stress levels, movement patterns, and nutrition. When thyroid dysfunction is part of the picture, your care might include:

  • Thorough lab testing (beyond just TSH)
  • Nutritional strategies to support your thyroid and metabolism
  • Supplements to replenish key nutrients
  • Anti-inflammatory support
  • Nervous system and stress regulation
  • Chiropractic care to improve overall function and recovery
